وفقاً لموقع Bitcoin.com، ألغت المحكمة العليا في ويندهوك بناميبيا كفالة 8 متهمين غائبين في قضية احتيال بالعملات المشفرة واتجار بالبشر، وصادرت حوالي 29,800 دولار من أموال الكفالة. وذكر الادعاء أن المتهمين الثمانية يشملون 6 مواطنين صينيين، ومواطناً من فانواتو، ومواطناً سنغافورياً، حيث تم تتبع 6 من المشتبه بهم الصينيين وصولاً إلى الصين. وقد طلبت السلطات الناميبية المساعدة من الإنتربول لتحديد أماكنهم.
عملت المجموعة الإجرامية تحت غطاء شركة تدعى Raylon Investments في الفترة من ديسمبر 2022 إلى أكتوبر 2023. ويُشتبه في قيام المجموعة بتوظيف ناميبيين عاطلين عن العمل وإجبارهم على العمل القسري. وذكرت حكومة الولاية أن هؤلاء الموظفين أُجبروا على إنشاء حسابات وهمية على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي تنتحل صفة نساء من أوروبا والولايات المتحدة لاستدراج ضحايا دوليين إلى علاقات عاطفية. وبمجرد كسب الثقة، كان يتم التلاعب بالضحايا لتحويل الأموال إلى حسابات عملات مشفرة تسيطر عليها المجموعة الإجرامية. ويقدر المحققون أن المجموعة سرقت حوالي 267,800 دولار من ضحايا حول العالم.
