Segundo o Cryptopolitan, o Comitê de Finanças do Bundestag alemão rejeitou uma proposta do Partido Verde para aumentar os impostos sobre criptomoedas, que visava eliminar a isenção fiscal para a venda de criptomoedas mantidas por mais de um ano. Atualmente, a lei alemã estipula que os lucros provenientes da venda de criptomoedas mantidas por mais de um ano são isentos de imposto sobre ganhos de capital. O Partido Verde acredita que essa regulamentação não é razoável e argumenta que ativos cripto deveriam ser tratados da mesma forma que outros investimentos.
No entanto, críticos apontam que a proposta imporia uma carga tributária maior aos investidores de cripto em comparação aos investidores de ações comuns. A União Democrata-Cristã/União Social-Cristã, na coalizão governista, acredita que a proposta não fecha brechas e pode, em vez disso, criar novas. O Partido Social-Democrata prefere aguardar que o ministro das finanças apresente seu próprio plano. O Partido Verde estima que a eliminação da isenção fiscal poderia gerar aproximadamente 11,4 bilhões de euros em receita tributária adicional a cada ano.
