U.S. sanctions against the cryptocurrency money laundering network associated with the Sinaloa drug cartel

O Escritório de Controle de Ativos Estrangeiros (OFAC) do Departamento do Tesouro dos EUA anunciou sanções contra duas redes de lavagem de dinheiro associadas ao cartel de drogas de Sinaloa, envolvendo mais de uma dúzia de indivíduos e entidades. Uma das redes é acusada de converter dinheiro da venda de fentanil e outras drogas em criptomoedas e transferi-lo para membros de alto escalão do cartel de Sinaloa no México.
O OFAC declarou que a rede lavava dinheiro por meio da coleta de espécie dentro dos Estados Unidos, transferências de criptomoedas e corretores mexicanos associados à facção "Los Chapitos". A facção "Los Chapitos" é controlada por Ivan e Alfredo Guzman Salazar, filhos de "El Chapo" Guzman. Os indivíduos sancionados incluem Armando de Jesus Ojeda Aviles, suspeito de ser o responsável pela rede de lavagem de dinheiro, e Jesus Gonzalez Penuelas, outro líder de uma organização de tráfico de drogas e lavagem de dinheiro.
O OFAC observou que a organização coleta grandes quantias em espécie nos Estados Unidos, troca por criptomoedas e envia de volta para o México. Sob as sanções, os ativos dos indivíduos e entidades relevantes dentro dos Estados Unidos serão congelados, e cidadãos dos EUA
