BlockBeats News, November 25th - Although Trump will not appear on the midterm election ballot next November, he is fully engaged in a last-ditch effort as this election is crucial to his presidential term and political life. According to nine Republican strategists involved in the election, he is making phone calls to candidates, endorsing them early, strategizing, and pushing economic messages in an attempt to keep Congress in Republican hands.

“Presidents typically don’t get involved until late in the campaign,” said Bill Galston, who served as a senior advisor in the White House of former Democratic President Bill Clinton, “so this level of engagement right now is highly unusual.”

Six Republican insiders told Reuters that Trump wants party candidates to focus on his tax cut plan as their campaign theme. The plan was passed by the Republican-controlled Congress in July. Their goal is to help voters understand that after filing taxes in April next year, they will receive more tax refunds from the IRS, thereby increasing their disposable income to offset anxiety over rising prices.

For Trump, maintaining Republican control of Congress next November is also a matter of self-preservation. Losing control of the House would give Democrats the power to impeach Trump for a third time. During his term from 2017 to 2021, House Democrats impeached Trump twice, but the Republican-controlled Senate did not vote to remove him either time. Nevertheless, the impeachment process would still drain the president's energy and potentially derail policy objectives.
