That shift matters because Google stock now depends on whether massive compute spending can turn into durable cloud revenue, not just flashy product launches. Google stock also sits at the center of a new market debate around Google’s reported $200 billion Anthropic financing program, including more than $150 billion tied to TPU commitments. With GOOG trading around the mid-$300s, a 52-week high of $404.47, and Google Cloud growing 82% year over year in Q2 2026, investors need to understand what this deal changes and what it does not.

    That distinction matters for Google stock. A direct equity investment would mainly be a balance sheet question. A TPU-heavy financing structure is different. It suggests Google is trying to lock in long-duration demand for its AI infrastructure, similar to how a blockchain ecosystem benefits when usage migrates from speculation to recurring network activity. Proprietary hardware can improve economics, but only if outside customers actually want it. That is why the TPU angle matters more than the headline size alone.

    Those numbers explain why the stock did not simply surge after earnings. Investing.com data showed Alphabet beat Q2 estimates sharply, yet the stock reaction was negative 8.49%. Investors are no longer rewarding growth alone. They want evidence that all this capex creates monetizable demand.

    External TPU sales help answer that concern. If Google can sell its own AI chips and wrap them into cloud contracts, it may justify the heavy spending. If not, the market may keep treating Alphabet as a company with rising depreciation, thinner free cash flow, and slower capital returns.

On top of that, future depreciation from the 2025 to 2026 build cycle may weigh on earnings through late 2026 and 2027.

    So what does this Anthropic program change? It strengthens the case that Google wants to become the AI utility layer, not just an application player. That could support a higher long-term multiple if cloud revenue and TPU adoption scale together. But it also means Google stock should be judged more like an infrastructure operator, where capacity utilization, long-term contracts, and financing discipline matter as much as product excitement.

    For traders, the next major checkpoint remains the next earnings report on October 27, 2026. Watch for any management commentary on TPU monetization, cloud backlog conversion, capex pace, and free cash flow. Those metrics will tell the market whether this giant financing framework is building real economic value or just a larger cost base.

    The biggest takeaway for investors is simple: the reported $200 billion Anthropic program is not just a headline about AI ambition. It is a test of whether Google can turn hardware, cloud, and financing into one integrated profit engine. If that works, GOOG may deserve a fresh re-rating. If it does not, Google stock could remain stuck between strong top-line growth and growing doubts about how expensive that growth has become.
