The KB Management Research Institute released a report titled "[KB Knowledge Vitamin] The Next Evolution of Blockchain: A Leap into AI Agent Economic Infrastructure" on the 18th. The report covers key topics such as the evolution of blockchain, the AI agent economy, a comparison between card and blockchain methods, forecasts, and implications. As the trend of AI agents directly utilizing paid APIs, data, and content spreads, blockchain is gaining attention as a payment and asset management infrastructure. AI agents are reducing payment units and increasing frequency, while blockchain-based payments are discussing automated payment flows through wallets, signatures, and smart contracts. Coinbase has introduced AI agent payment functionality based on x402 in its enterprise services, and Amazon Web Services has stated that AI agents can handle micro-payments using stablecoins and open protocols. The report mentions that banks, cards, and virtual asset infrastructures present different solutions to the same issues, and the establishment of wallets and payment infrastructure dedicated to AI agents is underway. However, it cannot be concluded that blockchain has become the standard infrastructure for the AI agent economy, and the trust mechanisms of AI agents remain an important challenge, outweighing the superiority of payment methods.
