Trump Has Not Made a Decision on Patriot Missile License for Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington has not made a decision regarding the provision of a license for Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. He noted that the U.S. is cautious about granting licenses for the production of weapons, although the issue remains under consideration. Trump added that the Patriot is a powerful weapon, and the U.S. approaches the licensing of military equipment thoughtfully. This statement came after Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the possibility of localizing the production of Patriot missiles was discussed. In early July, Trump expressed readiness to grant Ukraine a license to produce missiles for these systems. Patriot complexes are key elements of Ukraine's air defense, capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. The U.S. readiness to consider localizing missile production became an important outcome of negotiations with Zelensky. Trump also emphasized that Washington's main goal remains to end Russia's war against Ukraine and achieve peace. It was previously reported that Ukraine, in collaboration with the American company Raytheon, would produce interceptors for the Patriot systems. However, experts note that launching such production could take at least a year or more.
