Trump's Approval Rating Influences U.S. Midterm Election Results

With less than two months until the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, Trump's approval ratings and governance performance have become crucial variables for the Republican Party's ability to maintain a majority in Congress. A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that Trump's net disapproval rating is nearly double that of the same period in 2018, with voters expressing widespread dissatisfaction with the economy and the war in Iran. The enthusiasm of Democratic voters to cast their ballots is higher than that of Republicans. The Republicans hold a slim advantage in the House of Representatives with 218 seats to 214, and if the Democrats regain control of the House, they will be able to investigate the Trump administration and force the White House to seek compromises on most legislative issues. In the Senate, the Democrats need to gain four seats from the Republicans to achieve a majority, but the current electoral map is unfavorable to them. Analysts point out that only 9 out of 35 Senate races are highly competitive, and even if the Democrats win in Georgia, Maine, Michigan, and North Carolina, they still need to win at least two more seats from Alaska, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas. The Republicans continue to hold an advantage in redistricting and fundraising, with the new House district map potentially helping the party gain up to 10 additional seats. Trump's super PAC currently has a funding reserve of $400 million. The cost of living remains a major challenge, with energy costs, tariffs, and trade conflicts affecting voters in several key states. Election experts believe that midterm elections are often seen as a referendum on the sitting president, and whether Trump can reignite enthusiasm among Republican voters will be critical.
