Wall Street Syndicate Launches $60 Billion AI Debt Financing to Support Anthropic

On October 6, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley launched a $60 billion debt financing distribution aimed at supporting Anthropic in leasing Google chips for AI computing power, setting a record for chip financing transactions. The financing plan includes approximately $42 billion in senior secured loans backed by Broadcom, which has initiated a syndicate distribution, with potential sales through private placements or investment-grade bond markets in the future. An additional $18 billion in subordinated debt not backed by Broadcom will be introduced later, with Blackstone committing to provide funding for about $9 billion of that amount. The funds will be used for Anthropic's chip orders in 2027, with lease payments commencing after chip delivery. Since the lenders of the subordinated debt will bear the credit risk of Anthropic, banks may promote it to the market after the planned IPO is completed, allowing investors to gain more financial disclosures. This transaction is seen as a significant indicator of market demand for AI debt financing.
