Chainlink CCIP Vault Adapters: Aave, Lombard, and Maple adopt one-click cross-chain deposits
Borderless DeFi. On Thursday, October 8, Chainlink unveiled CCIP Vault Adapters, an infrastructure for cross-chain deposits aimed at vault providers. Specifically, a vault hosted on a single blockchain can now receive funds from over 80 networks. This is a significant announcement for DeFi liquidity, especially as Aave V4 has just surpassed one billion dollars.
Key points of this article:
- Announced on Thursday, October 8, CCIP Vault Adapters allows a vault on a single blockchain to accept one-click deposits from over 80 networks.
- The strategy, accounting, and governance of the vault remain focused on its original chain.
- Aave, Lombard, Maple, Venus, Huma Finance, and World Liberty Financial are among the first adopters listed by Chainlink.
- The solution primarily targets ERC-4626 vaults, which can be deployed in minutes via a factory contract, without custom code.
No more hurdles with bridges
To recall, a vault refers to a DeFi vault, often built on the ERC-4626 standard, which pools user deposits to apply a yield strategy. Until now, reaching depositors from other chains involved two poor options: Redeploying the vault everywhere, at the cost of fragmented liquidity and scattered governance. Or letting the user bridge their funds manually, with the fees and risks that entails.

This is precisely the journey that the oracle aims to shorten. Thanks to programmable transfers of CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol), the user deposits from their source chain, and the funds go directly to the vault on the destination chain. In practice, the logic of the vault, accounting, governance, and risk parameters remain on the original chain. This way, it maintains a single source of truth. Moreover, the receiving token of the vault can be issued as a Cross-Chain Token (CCT). Shares thus become trackable and usable in applications of other networks. CCIP Vault Adapter.
On the deployment side, the argument is appealing for teams in a hurry. A factory contract allows for deploying the adapter in just a few minutes and in a single transaction, without custom code for standard vaults. Custom deployments can, however, incorporate open-source code. This allows for adapting the deposit or withdrawal logic. The initial focus is on ERC-4626 deposits and withdrawals, with more exotic patterns promised for the future (asynchronous vaults, cooldowns, multi-assets).
Aave, Lombard, and Maple lead the way
In practice, adoption already seems quite real on the asset issuer side. Lombard, Maple, Re.xyz, United Stables, Tenbin, Tori Finance, Saturn, World Liberty Financial, and USDX are on the official list. The protocols Aave, Venus, and Huma Finance also notably complete the picture, along with vault platforms like Veda, Enzyme, RockawayX, or K3.
Use cases give an idea of the potential. Lombard routes BTC deposits to its on-chain credit strategy, so that a holder of BTC.b on Avalanche can fund their Ethereum vault without manual bridging. Maple applies the same mechanics to credit, with risk analysis remaining on the original chain. As for Aave, the platform extends its sGHO vault beyond Ethereum, with small GHO/sGHO swaps executed on-site while larger volumes go through the adapter. This strengthens the distribution of the stablecoin. The platform was indeed compelled to criticize the ECB regarding stablecoin yields just a week ago.
To recall, CCIP was upgraded to version 2.0 on September 28. That is about ten days before this new feature. This cadence confirms Chainlink's ambition. Long confined to its role as an oracle, the protocol now aims for the distribution layer of on-chain finance. The battle for multi-chain liquidity is just beginning. This is evidenced by a poorly protected vault that allowed $6 million to slip away on Base last week.
