Today’s Digest

  • Major indexes closed lower on October 14, with the Nasdaq leading the decline.
  • September CPI rose to 3.7% year on year, above forecasts, while this month’s hike probability rose to about 43.7%.
  • Bitcoin broke below $83,000 and last traded near $81,700; PYTH rose about 10% against the tape.
  • Crypto-related stocks were under pressure, Circle’s USDC received important EMT status, and Moderna held up relatively well.
  • October 15 focus turns to PPI, retail sales, jobless claims, TSMC and Interactive Brokers.

1 Crypto Highlights

1)Bitcoin Near $81,700 as Hot Inflation and Chip Selling Weigh on Risk Appetite

Bitcoin last traded near $81,700, while Ethereum weakened in tandem. After September CPI rose to 3.7%, the highest since April, traders increased bets on a hike this month and speculative interest cooled. Chipmaker stocks were sold again, further pressuring risk assets. Some analysts have turned more constructive, but majors are still dragged by the broader risk pullback. Near term, watch $82,000–$83,000 resistance and changes in hike pricing.

2)PYTH Rises Against the Tape as DAO Passes a Full-Revenue Buyback Rule

Pyth Network (PYTH) rose about 10% over 24 hours and last traded near $0.085–$0.086. The DAO passed the “100% rule,” requiring all platform product revenue to be used for monthly PYTH buybacks that go into project reserves. Third-quarter revenue was about $11.49 million, up sharply year on year, and the project is partnering on AI-related work. In a pullback for majors, the buyback mechanism and revenue growth provide independent support, though the near term may face a give-back after the move.

3)Robinhood Ecosystem Tokens Spike and Fade; CASHCAT, AI and PONS Draw Attention

Robinhood’s CEO recently mentioned more support for the on-chain ecosystem, and market talk of a hundred-million-dollar grant program lifted Robinhood ecosystem tokens. CASHCAT, AI and PONS jumped sharply before most gave back gains. The move remains narrative-driven. The next key point is whether official grant details and an on-chain plan actually land.

4)WEEX Adds BORDR; Token Rises More Than 90% in 24 Hours

Bordrless (BORDR) is a Solana programmable token-standard project with the slogan “Be in control with Bordrless token standard.” The standard uses hooks that can intervene before and after transfers, mints and swaps for fees, burns and charges, and it comes with its own DEX, Launchpad and SPL bridge. The protocol says 50% of revenue is used to buy back the token. After WEEX added support, the token rose more than 90% over 24 hours as liquidity and narrative lined up. High volatility still needs watching.

2 Stock Highlights

1)Major Indexes Close Lower as Hot CPI Lifts Hike Expectations

Major indexes closed lower on October 14. September unadjusted CPI rose to 3.7% year on year, and both core month-on-month and year-on-year readings beat expectations. Index futures dropped after the print and turned lower. This month’s hike probability rose to about 43.7%, and markets fully priced two more hikes by the end of January. Inflation has been above the 2% target for 67 consecutive months. Long-bond yields rose, while chip and AI hardware stocks were sold. The next checkpoint is October 15 PPI and retail sales for rate-path repricing.

2)Anthropic’s Off-Market Valuation Falls 5% as Q3 Revenue Jumps to $16.8 Billion

Anthropic (ANTHROPIC) fell more than 5% in 24 hours in off-market valuation. The company told investors that third-quarter revenue jumped to $16.8 billion, nearly 50% above the second quarter’s $11.5 billion, and that it achieved adjusted profitability with positive cash flow for the quarter. As markets question the AI boom, the company is seeking support for a major listing plan. Chips and data centers remain the largest spend, and the profit and cash-flow figures help ease some valuation pressure.

3)Crypto-Related Stocks Weighed by Bitcoin’s Drop; USDC Receives Important EMT Status

Circle (CRCL) and other crypto-related stocks came under pressure as bitcoin broke below $83,000. A relevant regulator designated USDC issued by Circle Internet Financial Europe SAS as the first significant electronic money token under MiCA. A total of 45 EMTs have completed notification. From November 12, USDC’s own funds, reserve assets, liquidity, recovery plans and redemption plans will fall under direct oversight by the relevant authority. The event strengthens the stablecoin compliance narrative, but near-term trading remains tied to bitcoin’s pullback.

Spot: CRCL / COIN / MSTR
Futures: CRCL / COIN / MSTR

4)Moderna (MRNA) Rises More Than 4% in 24 Hours

Moderna (MRNA) rose more than 4% over 24 hours. Against a broad pullback in technology and chip stocks, healthcare was relatively resilient as capital rotated into defensive and pipeline-related names. Investors will watch whether later clinical and commercialization progress can support a valuation repair.

3 Today’s Preview

1)September PPI, Retail Sales and Jobless Claims — October 15

Consensus is about 5.3% year on year for PPI. If producer prices keep heating up, stacked on an already hot CPI, this month’s hike pricing could firm further and pressure growth stocks and long-duration assets. Retail sales will map how consumption is holding up under high rates, and jobless claims will show whether the labor market is still tight.

Spot: SPY / QQQ / IWM
Futures: SPY / QQQ / IWM

2)TSMC (TSM) — October 15 Pre-Market

Consensus is about $4.52 EPS. AI chip demand, advanced-node capacity and capex guidance are the core focus. The print will directly affect near-term pricing of semiconductors and compute-related groups.

Watchlist: TSM
Spot: TSM
Futures: TSM

3)Interactive Brokers (IBKR) — October 15 After the Close

Consensus is about $0.67 EPS and about $1.86 billion in revenue. Investors will watch brokerage activity, net interest margin and changes in client assets as a read on risk appetite and trading heat.

Futures: IBKR
