Analyst Says Rising U.S. Treasury Yields Tighten Financial Conditions but Cannot Replace Fed's Role

On October 28, Ben Emons, founder of FedWatch Advisors, stated that the sell-off of U.S. Treasuries has driven up yields, which may help tighten financial conditions, but it does not eliminate the necessity for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates this year to combat inflation. Emons believes that yields may continue to rise, primarily driven by high energy prices and risks from the Iran conflict. He emphasized that while rising yields can partially contribute to tightening, the Fed still needs to follow a policy rate path to address inflation issues.
