Anomaly Detected in Bitcoin HODL Wave Data

Unusual on-chain data has been detected in the Bitcoin market. Analyst Willy Woo announced that he has identified an unprecedented anomaly in the HODL Wave data from a 17.5-year dataset. The party accumulating Bitcoin near the bottom levels did not make purchases quickly and aggressively; instead, a pattern emerged where the purchases were spread over time. Woo believes that this accumulation may have come from a single large investor or a limited number of strong actors. HODL Waves are known as an indicator that classifies the circulating Bitcoin supply based on how long coins have remained inactive. In past cycles, bottom formations created significant movement spikes in short-term bands. However, Woo noted that these traces are absent in the current scenario, suggesting that the accumulation in the market may have been quietly conducted by a narrower group. Woo also acknowledges that the single large investor scenario is not a definitive conclusion. Additionally, he pointed out that factors such as the impact of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and derivative products may have shaped the data. Bitcoin fell below the $77,000 level on Thursday. On Friday, approximately $2.51 billion worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum options contracts will expire. This situation could lead to high price volatility in the short term.
