Apple Cuts At Least 60 Jobs Related to Vision Pro
Apple has cut at least 60 jobs related to the Vision Pro. This suggests that the company's spatial computing strategy is shifting from headsets towards Siri AI and smart glasses. According to AppleInsider, the layoffs affect the Apple Vision group and related roles, but the entire team has not been disbanded. CryptoBriefing reported that over 200 employees were let go from the Siri, Vision Pro, and gaming teams, but the officially confirmed number of layoffs is at least 60. Apple has not yet provided official confirmation. On June 8, Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26) that it would integrate Siri AI across multiple devices and also introduced visionOS 27, the operating system for Vision. Apple's recruitment page lists 220 job postings related to Siri and 243 related to visionOS. The market interpretation leans towards a reduction in headsets, with analysts stating that Apple’s vision product roadmap has narrowed down to AI glasses and AR/XR glasses. However, UploadVR countered that the interpretation of a permanent cancellation of the Vision headset line is excessive. The layoffs are related to management succession, as Tim Cook is set to move to the role of Chairman of the Board, with Jon Turner expected to take over as CEO on September 1. Apple’s changes appear to be adjustments in product form and resource allocation rather than a withdrawal from spatial computing.
