Blockstream confirms Jade wallets safe from RNG vulnerability

Blockstream announced that its Jade line of Bitcoin hardware wallets, including Jade Classic, Jade Core, and Jade Plus, is not affected by a recently disclosed random number generator (RNG) vulnerability found in another company's products. The company is preparing a blog post detailing best practices for users transferring Bitcoin to a new wallet, which will cover generating new keys, verifying addresses, conducting test transactions, and securely disposing of existing recovery phrases. Blockstream noted that frontier large language models (LLMs) are identifying previously overlooked vulnerabilities, which the company is leveraging to enhance product quality assurance reviews. However, it emphasized that AI cannot replace open source, as independent verification and the prompt disclosure and patching of vulnerabilities necessitate transparent hardware and firmware. Recently, an attack exploiting a key-generation flaw in Coldcard hardware wallets resulted in the theft of 594 BTC, valued at approximately 38000000 dollars, from around 500 wallets.
