Brutal Murder of Mexican Rock Band Member's Family, Possible Crime Targeting Bitcoin Cold Wallet
In Mexico, authorities are investigating the brutal murder of the keyboardist of the rock band Camilo Septimo and his family, looking into the possibility that it was a planned crime targeting a cold wallet containing Bitcoin. Two suspects are believed to have targeted the family, thinking they possessed millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin, and attempted to find the cold wallet at their residence. Melendez, his wife, their three-year-old daughter, and a housekeeper were murdered, and the family's golden retriever was also found. The prosecution announced the arrest of the two suspects and raised the possibility that they may have approached the victims through a business relationship. Investigations revealed that one of the suspects had instructed the preparation of items necessary for the crime, which appear to have been used to subdue the victims. This incident is related to the increase in 'ransom attacks' targeting digital asset holders, with 52 ransom attack incidents confirmed in the first half of this year, an increase compared to the same period last year.
