Buterin Conducts AI Experiment with Data Protection

Vitalik Buterin conducted an AI experiment with multi-layered data protection, using the local Qwen 3.8 Flash Next model from Alibaba to obtain personalized nutrition and training advice without disclosing personal information. The model concealed identifying information and formulated anonymized queries for remote AI models. Buterin also utilized zkAPI to perform computations without revealing the original data and the Tor network for traffic anonymization. The experiment demonstrated that the scheme is functional but revealed limitations: Tor reduces the level of privacy and increases latency by 10 to 100 times, while the performance of Qwen 3.8 was only 20 to 30 transactions per second, with a required level of around 100 TPS. Buterin noted that the balance between privacy and the quality of recommendations is the main challenge of the experiment. Previously, he promised to turn Ethereum into a "cryptographic global computer."
