ByteDance Secures $29.6 Billion Loan for AI Development
Chinese company ByteDance, the owner of TikTok and Douyin, has secured a loan of $29.6 billion from nearly 30 banks, increasing the initial loan amount from $20 billion due to high demand from lenders. Citigroup and JPMorgan acted as coordinators for the three-year loan, with over 60% of the funding provided by Chinese banks, alongside financial institutions from the U.S., Europe, and Singapore. The credit line is open for three years with an option to extend for two more years. The loan is unsecured, indicating high trust from creditors in the company. The funds will be directed towards the development of artificial intelligence outside of China, including the acquisition of new data center capacities in Southeast Asia and chips for inference from Iluvatar CoreX and Baidu. The last time ByteDance entered the international debt market was in September 2024, raising $10.8 billion.
