Ethereum Begins Selection Process for Hegotá Upgrade with 66 Proposals
Ethereum (ETH) developers have started the selection process for the Hegotá upgrade, scheduled for 2027. Currently, 66 proposals are under consideration, and priorities will be determined in upcoming developer meetings. The candidates include FOCIL (EIP-7805), native privacy, data and state repricing, shorter slots, EVM improvements, initial zkEVM, and quantum resistance-related EIPs. FOCIL aims to create a transaction inclusion list and reduce block exclusions for specific transactions, enhancing censorship resistance. The Ethereum Foundation selected FOCIL as a key feature at the checkpoint in April 2026, while proposals related to account abstraction were moved to the non-key feature candidates. These proposals address the balance between adjusting network resource usage costs and the scope of transaction information disclosure. The deadline for non-key EIP proposals for Hegotá is set for August 6, 2026, with the inclusion review deadline on October 23, and the target activation date for the mainnet is April 1, 2027. Hegotá will follow the Glamsterdam upgrade, and the schedule may vary depending on the progress of Glamsterdam.
