FIFA Claims No Suspicious Betting Activities in World Cup, Monitoring Agency Issues 7 Warnings the Next Day
FIFA announced on July 21 that there were no suspicious betting activities in all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup. However, the following day, the Council of Europe’s Copenhagen Group revealed that seven yellow warnings were issued during independent monitoring, with 15 matches placed under enhanced scrutiny. The yellow warning is the lowest level on a four-tier scale, covering abnormal odds fluctuations, social media rumors, or sourced information, and does not indicate evidence of manipulation. This event marks the first time continuous monitoring of prediction markets has been conducted, with Kalshi and Polymarket recording nearly $2 billion in trading volume related to the finals, and the main platform achieving a record monthly trading volume of $44.8 billion in June. FIFA's conclusion of innocence remains the official stance, but the warning disclosures highlight the public's limited awareness of alerts during the event.
