Global Electric Vehicle Sales Rose 2% in August to 1.83 Million Units

In August, global demand for battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids increased by 2% year-on-year, reaching 1.83 million units. Europe became the main driver of the market, compensating for the slowdown in sales in North America and China. Since the beginning of the year, total sales volume has reached 13.4 million vehicles. In Europe, sales grew by 36% to 380,000 cars, thanks to government subsidies, which ensured an overall increase of 29% since the beginning of the year. In China, domestic sales fell by 11% to 1.03 million units due to a high comparison base from the previous year. In North America, sales dropped by 33% to 140,000 vehicles, reflecting a decline after last year's surge ahead of the cancellation of federal tax credits. In other global markets, sales increased by 97% to 290,000 vehicles. China announced a strategy for electric vehicles and drones by 2030, aiming to increase the share of electric and hybrid cars among new passenger vehicles to 70%.
