Justin Sun Warns of Quantum Threat, Market Underestimates Q-Day's Impact on Bitcoin
In an interview, Justin Sun discussed the threat of quantum computing to the cryptocurrency industry, emphasizing the critical role of mathematics in the sector and the current focus on quantum attacks. TRON is advancing NIST's post-quantum encryption standards aimed at enhancing blockchain's resistance to quantum attacks, with technology already launched on the testnet and expected to go live on the mainnet early next year. Sun stressed that many people underestimate the destructive power of Quantum Threat Day (Q-Day), pointing out that the Bitcoin network reaches consensus at a very slow pace. He noted that since entering the Bitcoin community in 2012, technological progress has been slow, and even if the entire network knows a disaster will occur in two years, reaching consensus in a short time is nearly impossible. Fund managers at large financial institutions have failed to adequately study this issue, believing that technological evolution is similar to mobile system updates, but the evolution of underlying public chain technology is not the same. Sun warned that Q-Day will pose significant trouble, and the market severely underestimates the potential devastating impact of Q-Day on Bitcoin's price.

On October 15, September PPI rose 6.3% year on year, the highest in more than four years, briefly lifting hike expectations and triggering a short drop in equities and crypto. After the market digested the print, risk assets rebounded from the sell-off and the three major indexes closed higher. Bitcoin briefly broke below $80,000 and recovered to the $82,000–$83,000 range. CoreWeave fell sharply on bond pressure and then closed higher, while crypto-finance stocks and some L2 tokens strengthened. October 16 focus turns to industrial production and import-export prices.
