Map Reveals 67 Million Adult Cryptocurrency Holders in the U.S.
The number of cryptocurrency holders in the United States is estimated to be 67 million, with a map showing their distribution by state and congressional district. The National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) reported in its 2026 Holder Report that one in four American adults owns cryptocurrency. The survey was conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of the NCA from February 12 to March 3, 2026. The NCA map provides estimates of holders by the 50 states, Washington D.C., and 435 congressional districts, with California having the highest number at 9.5 million, followed by Texas with 5.94 million, Florida with 4.71 million, and New York with 4.66 million. These figures are based on sample surveys and model estimates rather than a verified list of holders. The regional distribution shows that 38% are in the South, 27% in the West, 18% in the Northeast, and 18% in the Midwest. 41% of respondents reported sending cryptocurrency to friends or family, while 40% use it for payments of goods and services. The NCA stated that the U.S. cryptocurrency industry creates 232,000 jobs and contributes over $55 billion annually. This data illustrates that cryptocurrency ownership is not confined to specific regions but is widespread across the United States.
