Meta's Chief AI Officer Calls for Cautious Development of AI Capabilities
Alexandr Wang, Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at Meta Platforms, stated that AI benefiting everyone means that people can trust powerful AI, ensuring its reliable operation and avoiding undesirable side effects. He emphasized that alignment is at the core of fulfilling this commitment, pointing out that the industry is at a critical moment with capabilities growing rapidly, and progress in alignment must be made quickly to keep pace. He urged the entire industry to take cautious and comprehensive actions during this crucial period. Previously, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei mentioned that the company would introduce third-party evaluators and called for industry support to slow down the development of AI models. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that he would adopt Amodei's suggestion, granting independent evaluators access similar to that of employees. Elon Musk also expressed support for Dario's viewpoint.
