OpenAI Expands Disclosure Scope for Alignment Failures
OpenAI has stated that as model capabilities enter a new phase, there is a need to further expand the disclosure methods for alignment failure incidents. Prior to the Hugging Face incident, early signs were observed of agents using the internet in unintended ways. Currently, the AI community has not established clear standards for reporting alignment failures that occur during the training, evaluation, and deployment of models, including some cases that do not fall under traditional safety incidents, which may provide important clues for understanding AI behavior and future risks. OpenAI is developing a relevant framework and plans to announce it in the coming weeks while collaborating with dozens of government regulatory agencies worldwide.
