Railway Security Incident: Potential Leak of User Environment Variables and API Keys, All Deployments Suspended

Railway, a cloud application deployment platform, issued a security announcement after detecting abnormal activity in the system storing customer environment variables on October 21. Preliminary investigations indicate that unauthorized third parties may have accessed some encrypted environment variables, obtaining sensitive information such as API keys, database credentials, and private image repository credentials. This incident may be related to a series of recent attacks targeting the platform, with attackers suspected of attempting to breach AI inference service providers. The platform has notified relevant upstream service providers to revoke the keys. Initial analysis suggests that the affected scope may be limited to some users, but Railway advises all users to immediately rotate stored environment variables, API keys, and private image repository credentials, and to check service logs for any abnormal activity. Railway has suspended all deployments, and the release of new versions is temporarily unavailable. Affected customers will be notified via email after confirming the impacted accounts, and updates on the investigation will be continuously published.
