Ripple Launches 24/7 Trading in Perpetual Swaps for Institutional Clients
Ripple expands its offering with perpetual swaps, allowing professional parties, such as trading house Virtu, to trade on markets with fixed opening hours even on weekends. The new contracts follow more than 100 markets, including stocks, ETFs, metals, energy, and currencies, and are offered through a license in the British Virgin Islands. A perpetual swap is a contract without a fixed end date, meaning the buyer gains exposure to the price of, for example, stocks or gold, without owning the underlying product. Ripple Prime acts as the counterparty, and the swaps are related to perpetual futures offered by Trade.xyz on the decentralized trading platform Hyperliquid. Clients can combine their positions on a single account, enabling cross-margining. Ripple USD (RLUSD), a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, can be used as collateral. The swaps are aimed at professional parties and not retail investors. The geographical scope is currently limited to the British Virgin Islands, with plans to add other regions later.
