OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X platform, welcoming the establishment of a federal-level regulatory framework for cutting-edge AI safety in the United States, aiming to set consistent safety requirements. He pointed out that AI companies do not need to wait for antitrust exemptions or related legislation to take proactive safety measures. Altman stated that OpenAI will establish safety justifications in advance before significantly enhancing model capabilities through reinforcement learning training, and he hopes the industry can form common standards regarding the risks of model loss of control, monitoring, and safety. He emphasized that controlling the pace of AI development does not mean halting progress, but rather accepting the speed and cost implications of safety measures, stressing that regardless of the competitive pressure the U.S. faces, the pace of AI capability development should not exceed that of alignment and monitoring capabilities. Previously, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have been working on establishing their own AI safety standards since July. Additionally, Democratic lawmakers in the U.S. will hold a caucus meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss legislative actions related to artificial intelligence, stating that addressing AI challenges is a high priority and measures need to be taken promptly.
