Starknet Accounts Can Change Signature Verification Logic Without Hard Forks

By: x.com|10/30/2026 15:06:47

Starknet announced on the X platform that account abstraction allows accounts to change their verification logic without altering the address, balance, or history, switching to a post-quantum signature scheme without modifying the protocol. As an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, Starknet's settlement, data publishing, and cross-chain bridges still rely on Ethereum and elliptic curve cryptography. Research into independent Layer 1 could enable it to set its own cryptographic schemes and migration timelines. Currently, independent Layer 1 remains a research direction, and STRK is still the native token, with no plans to issue new tokens. Any decision to migrate to Layer 1 must go through a binding governance vote.
