Tether CEO: Bitcoin Needs Generational Shift to Surpass Gold
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that for Bitcoin (BTC) to surpass gold's status, a generational shift and broader understanding are necessary. He mentioned that Bitcoin has not yet reached the stage of being a global reserve currency, noting that many decision-makers are over 60 years old and do not understand Bitcoin. Ardoino explained that Bitcoin is not a 5,000-year-old asset like gold, which is why it has not yet achieved the same penetration. He emphasized that Bitcoin is better understood by younger generations and added that a generational change is needed for it to be accepted as a useful currency in a financial reset situation. The comparison between Bitcoin and gold has been a long-standing debate in the cryptocurrency market, with gold being a traditional store of value while Bitcoin is a digital asset with a limited supply. Ardoino pointed out that the volatility is a reason why Bitcoin-backed stablecoins have not become mainstream, as it burdens the design of collateralized stablecoin structures. He did not conclude that Bitcoin cannot replace gold, emphasizing that more time is needed due to the current level of adoption and the gap in understanding.
