Two men sentenced for money laundering after kidnapping of businessman in Costa Rica
Two men were sentenced to 12 years in prison each for money laundering related to the kidnapping and murder of William Sean Creighton Kopko in 2018. Creighton's family paid approximately 148 BTC, equivalent to nearly 1 million dollars, in an attempt to secure his release. However, the businessman was killed within the first 48 hours of captivity. The investigation revealed that part of the BTC was transferred to wallets controlled by the convicted men, who acted in coordination with others already sentenced. The Criminal Court of the Second Judicial Circuit of San José issued the sentence on September 17, 2026. This conviction adds to previous ones against members of the criminal organization involved in the kidnapping.
