U.S. 10-Year Treasury Yield Surpasses 4.76%, Reaches New High for 2025
The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury bond hit 4.764%, marking the highest level since January 2025, driven by rising oil prices and increased market expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Yields on other maturities also rose, with the 5-year Treasury yield reaching its highest level since early last year. U.S. President Trump stated in an interview with Fox News that he would respond to Iran's attacks on U.S. troops with further actions. Recently, the U.S. Treasury market has experienced a wave of selling, as investors are concerned about government debt and the pace of Federal Reserve interest rate increases. Federal Reserve Chairman Waller hinted at a higher likelihood of rate hikes during the Jackson Hole meeting, leading to a surge in short-term Treasury yields. The yield on the 30-year Treasury bond rose by 5 basis points, approaching 5.26%, but remains below the multi-year high reached in mid-August. Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury Department announced it would increase buybacks of 30-year Treasury bonds to boost market value, after which the 30-year yield retreated.
