Vitalik Buterin Predicts Existing DApps Will Disappear with AI Adoption
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, stated that existing on-chain applications may disappear as artificial intelligence (AI) establishes itself as the user interface (UI) for blockchain. Speaking at the 'OKX Now 2026' event in Singapore on the 6th, Buterin projected that over the next two years, Ethereum's transaction costs will decrease, privacy features will improve, and the integration of AI with on-chain services will progress rapidly. He described a scenario where AI agents read blockchain conditions and execute transactions on behalf of users, who only need to explain the desired outcomes to the AI. Buterin shared that he used an AI agent to modify Ethereum Name Service (ENS) information, completing the task in just five minutes. He remarked that once the handling of complex on-chain tasks by AI becomes commonplace, 'AI will become the new user interface.' This shift could also impact the security structure of blockchain services, as AI directly interacting with the blockchain may reduce reliance on existing web interfaces. However, he warned that new security challenges could arise, such as the safety of AI agents and the accuracy of transaction content interpretation. AI is also expected to enhance the capabilities of defenders, and he explained that AI is being utilized in Ethereum's security operations.
