AMC Token Supply Increases from 17,167 to 2.89 Million
The supply of AMC-linked tokens on Robinhood increased from 17,167.05 on August 25 to 2,895,757.58 on September 5. These tokens are debt securities linked to the price of AMC stock, without legal ownership or voting rights. AMC CEO Adam Aron criticized Robinhood's tokens as unrelated to AMC and announced plans for an external review. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev responded, "What's the concern?" On September 4, AMC's stock price rose by 22.4% during trading, although the reason for the increase remains uncertain. As of September 7, the supply of AMC tokens stands at 2,895,757.58, which is approximately 0.32% of AMC's issued shares totaling 8,926,064,638. The token price may move differently from the underlying stock, with the AMC token price analyzed at $187.21 on August 30. The SEC stated that the rights and risks of holders may vary depending on the structure of tokenized securities. This case illustrates that AMC tokens are difficult to interpret as part of the circulating supply of AMC stock.
