ByteDance Establishes AI Data and Security Department

ByteDance has established a new first-level department called "AI Data and Security," which operates parallel to departments such as Seed, Flow, and Douyin, and is led by Wang Yinglei, the former head of TikTok's responsibilities and live streaming. The core mission of this department is to provide cross-modal data services for all of ByteDance's large models. It integrates the Global Data team formed by Fu Yue, a member of the TikTok founding team, in 2023, as well as the group's data middle platform DMC and the AI Data Platform AIDP under Flow. This covers the entire process of data standard formulation, sourcing procurement, synthesis and cleaning, quality assessment, and security compliance. ByteDance has invested over tens of millions of dollars in data budgets for training world models and code models, and has implemented a competitive mechanism to divide teams based on directions such as world models, code, and difficult disciplines.
