Ukraine has proposed to Canada to enter into a 30-year strategic agreement in the energy sector, including long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and cooperation in nuclear energy. During the negotiations, the possibility of providing grant assistance for the purchase of natural gas for Ukraine in the amount of 650 million Canadian dollars (approximately 461.5 million USD) was discussed, which could be allocated as part of a broader support package for Ukraine in 2026. The prospects for the supply of Canadian-made energy equipment and joint projects in the field of nuclear energy, including the use of Canadian small modular reactor technologies, were also discussed. Canada has already directed approximately 90 million Canadian dollars (63.9 million USD) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and allocated an additional 33.4 million euros (50 million Canadian dollars) in the spring to support the energy sector.
