Coinbase Institutional Compares Bitcoin to Gold, Wintermute Highlights $82,500 Mark
Coinbase Institutional has reported that the 90-day correlation between Bitcoin and gold is approaching a record high. However, the organization emphasizes that a high correlation does not mean the two assets will yield the same returns. Over the past month, Bitcoin has increased in value while gold has decreased, indicating that actual performance can diverge significantly. Coinbase Institutional believes that demand is leaning towards Bitcoin, even in a high interest rate and bond yield environment. Wintermute noted that Bitcoin just had its first week closing above the 50-week moving average since November 2025. The most closely watched price level is $82,500, which was previously the upper boundary of the earlier accumulation zone. If BTC can maintain above this area, the recent breakout may indicate a more sustainable price structure. Wintermute also suggests that Bitcoin could test $82,500 multiple times in the short term. If this level holds, the signal of surpassing the 50-week moving average will be reinforced. Conversely, a close below $82,500 could raise questions about the reliability of the breakout. Risk assets continued to show strength last week despite the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield exceeding 5%, the highest level since 2007.
