Engrave Releases Zero Firmware 1.8 QR Specification
Engrave has released firmware version 1.8 for its hardware wallet, Zero, and has unveiled the QR communication specification with the Liquid app. This update changes the existing QR format to a universal QR protocol and transitions the synchronization and signing communication between Zero and Liquid to an open standard. Zero is an air-gapped hardware wallet that communicates via QR codes without Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, or USB connections. The new QR specification has been released under the MIT license, allowing developers to validate it and create compatible software. Support for Polygon has been expanded, with additional Polygon tokens including USDC, USDT0, WETH, WBTC, DAI, AAVE, LINK, and UNI. Support for Ethereum-based PAXG and AMP, as well as Tether based on MultiverseX, has also been added, while over 100 inactive, duplicate, and legacy tokens have been removed. The support for Binance Coin on the BNB Smart Chain remains unaffected. This update has increased the transparency of the QR message format, but the possibility of external auditing for the entire code has not been resolved.
