Fuel Supply Restrictions at 26 Airports in Russia
In Russia, due to problems with aviation fuel, the refueling of aircraft has been restricted at 26 airports. In some of these airports, airlines are allowed to take only the necessary amount of fuel for one flight. The limits were introduced in June and September, with the new rules lasting from one to seven months. At St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport, refueling is only possible according to the flight plan until March 2027, while at Kaliningrad's Khrabrovo Airport, it is allowed until December. In 15 airports, the restrictions apply only to foreign airlines. The limits are in effect in Kazan, Ufa, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Irkutsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and Yakutsk. In southern Russia, restrictions for both Russian and foreign carriers apply in Sochi, Volgograd, and Astrakhan, while in Krasnodar, they are only for foreign companies. The aviation fuel shortage is linked to attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian oil refineries, with more than 70 attacks reported since the beginning of the year. At the end of June, the airline "Azimuth" reported a critical situation with aviation kerosene, although the Ministry of Transport claimed there was no shortage. To address the issue, the Russian government has banned the export of aviation fuel until November 30, 2026, and proposed lowering quality requirements to increase production. In August, the price of aviation fuel on the exchange reached a record high of 121,864 rubles per ton, which is 60% higher compared to the beginning of the year.
