Iran and Gulf States Foreign Ministers' Meeting Promotes Hormuz Strait Agreement
The foreign ministers of Gulf states plan to meet with the Iranian foreign minister in response to initiatives from Oman and Iran, aiming to garner support for an agreement on the temporary management of shipping in the Hormuz Strait. This meeting marks the first encounter between the top diplomats of the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and senior Iranian officials since the outbreak of the U.S.-Iran conflict at the end of February. The meeting is scheduled to take place next Monday in the coastal city of Salalah, Oman, with details yet to be finalized, but several countries have confirmed that the meeting is expected to proceed as planned. The meeting will highlight the urgency in the region to reopen the strait and ease U.S.-Iran hostilities.
