Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm Delay 2nm Foundry Contract Due to Price Discrepancies
Samsung Electronics' foundry division has delayed its contract with Qualcomm for application processor foundry production due to disagreements over production prices, with both parties unable to narrow the price gap, leading to prolonged negotiations. The 2nm process currently under discussion has received a considerable degree of stabilization evaluation, and no significant technical issues have emerged. Industry sources indicate that Qualcomm's application processors using Samsung's 2nm process may be delayed until next year, and it remains unclear whether production can commence within this year. Qualcomm had previously entrusted advanced application processors to Samsung before 2021, and Samsung has been actively seeking to regain this business in recent years, having secured clients such as Tesla and Broadcom. Insiders suggest that the contract delay makes it difficult for Samsung to produce application processors for Qualcomm this year, and both parties may turn to discuss the next generation of products instead.
