Iran's Foreign Minister Willing to Resolve Issues Diplomatically, Emphasizes Preparedness for Self-Defense
On October 21, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif stated in an article for the Financial Times that Iran seeks a fair and dignified agreement with the United States, provided that the White House demonstrates sincerity and ends its aggressive actions. He emphasized that Iran is committed to resolving conflicts peacefully in a dignified manner but is prepared for self-defense. Zarif pointed out that Trump's initiation of war was based on a mistaken assumption of Iran's strength, and Iran lacks confidence in the U.S. government's claimed intentions for peace. Given that the White House has not shown a willingness to reach a consensus and instead threatens to use more violence, there is little reason to expect progress. Nevertheless, Zarif stated that as a diplomat, he still has an obligation to attempt diplomatic means, even if the chances of success are slim.
