Japan's SBI Builds Stablecoin Payment Infrastructure with Messy and Money Forward
Japan's financial group SBI Holdings is collaborating with digital asset payment network company Messy and fintech company Money Forward to establish a digital asset connectivity and payment infrastructure. They plan to create a joint venture that connects exchanges and wallets in Japan and includes regulated stablecoin payments and tokenized asset management. According to local Japanese media on the 30th, they have signed a strategic agreement to build digital asset connectivity and payment infrastructure. The joint venture aims to launch in the fourth quarter of this year and is also considering expanding its business into the Asia-Pacific region. Key business areas include account linking between exchanges and wallets, onboarding new users, purchasing digital assets, regulated stablecoin infrastructure, tokenized asset management, and cross-border payments. The three companies are already connected through equity relationships, with Money Forward participating as an investor in Messy since 2023. This joint venture is related to SBI's strategy to expand its digital asset business and is also influenced by changes in Japan's regulatory environment. The equity structure and capital of the joint venture have not yet been disclosed.
