Lost Bitcoin Investment Reaches $4.5 Million
A British citizen who purchased Bitcoin in 2011 has now accessed an asset worth approximately $4.5 million. This investor, known by the alias Chris, recovered his Bitcoins with the help of the legal firm Sel Solicitors. In December 2011, Chris bought about £1,500 ($2,000) worth of Bitcoin from the Britcoin exchange. This exchange later changed its name to InterSango and eventually closed down. Sel Solicitors identified a wallet using cryptocurrency tracking software that was likely owned by users of InterSango, which had a balance of over 5,500 Bitcoins. To prove ownership, Chris provided documents of his Bitcoin purchase and bank records from 15 years ago. He had purchased his Bitcoins at a price of less than $4 each. The value of the recovered assets has now reached approximately $4.5 million. Chris stated that this investment could help his family buy a larger house and pay off debts. The financial litigation manager at Sel Solicitors said that recovering these assets required documentation showing that clients had purchased Bitcoin in the past. The firm announced that other former InterSango users might also be able to recover their lost Bitcoins if they can prove ownership.
