MetaMask integrates Stellar, manual setup needed for cross-chain bridges

MetaMask added Stellar as a default network on Oct. 29, enabling stablecoin payments within the wallet. Users must fund unfunded accounts with at least 1 XLM to receive assets like USDC. Stellar is now available on MetaMask Mobile and Extension, with addresses derived from existing multichain accounts. To prepare for USDC, users must open Manage Tokens, enable the token, and activate it, requiring an additional 0.5 XLM for each trustline. Under Stellar's reserve rules, an unsponsored account must maintain 1 XLM plus 0.5 XLM for each trustline. Users need spendable XLM for activation and transaction fees, as locked balances cannot be used. A swap between tokens on Stellar can automatically create a trustline, but cross-chain swaps into non-XLM tokens require manual activation of the receiving trustline. MetaMask warns users before bridge confirmations that funds may be lost if the trustline is missing.
