NEAR Account Supports Post-Quantum ML-DSA Signature Scheme
The public blockchain NEAR has officially announced that NEAR accounts now support the post-quantum ML-DSA signature scheme without the need to migrate assets. The NEAR core development team, Near One, is advancing NEP-655, which involves commitment-based implicit accounts derived from the initial state hash, without exposing public keys or key hashes on-chain. Related functionalities have been launched on the testnet, with plans for the mainnet to be released in the coming weeks. The team is also designing the NEAR Intents wallet contract to support custom signature extensions, including ML-DSA and hash-based schemes. Additionally, for chains that cannot yet add post-quantum keys, the team is promoting the Q-day recovery registry, allowing users to submit recovery keys in a rotatable hash format. Quantum computing factors were considered during NEAR's design in 2018.
