OpenAI Launches Personal Assistant 'o' in Response to Meta Muse, Expected Release on Tuesday

As Meta's personal AI agent Muse receives the highest rating from JPMorgan and gains significant momentum, OpenAI is accelerating the launch of a resident AI assistant named "o" to directly confront the intensifying competition in the AI agent space.
According to a recent report from tech media wccftech, OpenAI has reportedly added the brand logo for "o" in the documentation for ChatGPT Pro-related products, with an official release imminent, expected to debut at the Dev Day event on Tuesday (September 29).

This move is widely interpreted as a direct response to Meta Muse's recent strong performance—JPMorgan has ranked Meta Muse as the top AI agent in its latest Assistant Benchmark evaluation.

The Dev Day will also bring more significant news: OpenAI is expected to simultaneously launch a new subscription tier, ChatGPT Pro Max, priced at up to $500 per month, focusing on ultra-fast response experiences. Meanwhile, "o" is rumored to work in conjunction with an upcoming consumer-grade AI hardware device from OpenAI, which resembles a donut and features moving parts, further expanding its product ecosystem.

Reports indicate that in response to the challenge posed by Muse, OpenAI's solution is to launch a product positioned as a "resident AI assistant"—"o".

Currently, public information is limited, but @synthwavedd posted on social media platform X, stating that "o" will be powered by a specific variant of GPT-6 Astra called "Aeon", which is said to excel in handling long-running tasks—this is precisely the core capability required for an efficient personal AI agent.

In terms of competition, "o" faces more than just Muse. OpenAI's entry also targets Grok Bot and Hermes Agent, and with the three-way competition, the intensity of the race for AI personal assistants is rapidly escalating.

Dev Day Dual Strategy: New Brand + Premium Subscription

In addition to "o", OpenAI is expected to unveil multiple significant updates at Dev Day, forming a combined strategy.

Muse is a personal AI agent capable of executing multi-step tasks on behalf of users, with core capabilities including: autonomously opening a cloud browser, browsing the web like a human, and continuing to process tasks in the background even after the user closes the application.
