OpenAI has launched the GPT-5.6 series, which includes the flagship model Sol, the balanced version Terra, and the budget version Luna, now available on ChatGPT, Codex, and API. The GPT-5.6 Sol scored 53.6 in the professional agent evaluation Agents' Last Exam, leading Claude Fable 5 by 13.1 points, and still maintains an 11.4 point lead when using moderate reasoning intensity, with estimated costs about a quarter of the competitor's. In terms of programming capabilities, Sol scored 80 in the Artificial Analysis programming agent index, surpassing Fable 5 by 2.8 points, with output tokens and time taken being less than half, and costs approximately one-third lower. GPT-5.6 introduces an ultra mode, which defaults to allowing 4 agents to work in parallel, trading more tokens for stronger results and shorter times; API users can access the multi-agent beta. The pricing for input and output per million tokens is: Sol at $5 and $30, Terra at $2.5 and $15, and Luna at $1 and $6.
