OpenAI Releases New Model Specification, Establishing Five Core Values
On October 30, OpenAI released a new version of the "Model Spec," consolidating the behavioral guidelines for GPT into five core values: fidelity to human intent, harm reduction, honesty and transparency, maintenance of human autonomy, and care for affected populations. The new specification adds guidance on context understanding, human oversight, and user autonomy, requiring the model to understand the user's true goals and long-term interests, and to avoid steering users' choices without their consent. Additionally, OpenAI has adjusted the priority of instructions and default behavior rules, removing most detailed writing style guidelines, allowing the model to adapt its expression based on user preferences, linguistic culture, and specific contexts. The specification also acknowledges that the models currently in production do not fully meet the behavioral standards required by the new specification, and the company will continue to improve the models through training and feedback from actual deployments.
