OpenAI's AI Phone Mass Production Plan Advanced to First Half of 2027, Expected Shipment of 30 Million Units
OpenAI's AI phone mass production timeline has been moved up from 2028 to the first half of 2027. The device will be designed around an AI agent interface that continuously perceives user context and may utilize a custom MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip manufactured using TSMC's N2P process, with Luxshare Precision as the exclusive manufacturing partner. If development proceeds as planned, the total shipment volume from 2027 to 2028 could reach approximately 30 million units. OpenAI's first hardware is expected to be a portable, screenless smart speaker developed in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive, with smart glasses, smart lamps, and headphones also in longer-term development plans, although some projects may be canceled.
